Turn Your Marketing Radar ON PDF Print E-mail

This week, Ed sent out an email with subject “30 Day Challenge Warm Up Begins”,
telling us, basically to go out, and start collecting ideas.

“Marketing Radar” and Marketing Mindset are part of the same skills set that we will be cultivating during next month.
To turn on your radar you need to look around and see what real people are doing, buying, reading and talking about,
then translate them into products ideas.

What type of Ideas do you need?

The 30 Days Challenge is about niche marketing of Info-Products.
Products that can delivered electronically via a download.

Examples:

  • An eBook, with tricks on how to organize your visit to a shopping centre, get the best deals, and avoiding the temptations.

  • A meditation course, delivered as Audio files.

How and where do you get those ideas?

You will get better results by going out of your comfort zone and talking to other people. For example if you are a sports oriented, go into a book store and ask what type of books people are reading this season. Try to see the patterns: is it economics? Is it about religion? Is it entertainment?

As an outsider of that group, you are in a unique position to see trends, and most important, what needs to be fulfilled.
Ask yourself, if I where a passionate of this, what would I do?
What would I need to be part of this group?
Is there something missing or difficult to find?

Note: At this stage it is very important not to “edit” what we observe.

Why?
Because have the tendency to erase everything that we consider silly, simple or just plain stupid, and most of the time we will do this without even realizing it. By doing so we miss the opportunity of developing ideas for segments that 99% of time will remain unseen to other people.

Action points:

  1. Buy a block note, that fits into your pocket and carry it with you all the time.

  2. Go to a shopping centre, and when something catches your attention, write it down.

  3. Get into a shop and ASK the teller what sells, what don’t.

  4. You need to come with 10 ideas or more.

What to write down?

Your idea for a product, date, location, any other related idea (as they come).
It is important to do this exercise several times, until it becomes a habit.
Please do not be discouraged if at first try you seems to be blocked with one or 2 ideas.
Give yourself a break, and try again.

PS:  Setting Your Support System In Place, is still the next topic.
